PAT TIERNEY – SPOTLIGHT ARTIST OF THE WEEK!
Joining our growing ranks of Spotlight Artists Of The Week at The Holding Pattern is Pat Tierney.
His sound stems from a love of Folk & Roots music which he found from an early age. Incorporating his lap slide guitar with standard acoustic and an array of heartfelt songs he delves into the true meaning of honest, timeless music whilst drawing on influences such as Harry Manx & Ben Harper.
His is set to release his second EP, ‘Take On The World’ and we are lucky to get a sneak peak at the genius of this talented musician.
After a busy 2011 which saw Pat play over fifty shows including the annual 2High Festival at Brisbane’s Powerhouse and a headline slot at Currumbin’s Soundlounge, the young folk artist showed no signs of slowing down for the new year.
His latest offering is the follow up to his debut EP ‘Friends & Lovers’ which saw Pat establish himself in South East Queensland with numerous standout performances and a highly commended in the 2010 Q song awards for his track ‘Come Inside’.
With his slide guitar in hand and a unique mix of folk, blues & reggae his sound continues to grow and cement his presence as one of the most promising young artists in Australia.
His EP ‘Take On The World’ includes relaxed, catchy single Time To Leave This Town
The themes of Family and Home play a large part in Tierney’s music – his brother Jack, created the artwork for his new EP, his Father is a large influence in his songwriting and there is a tribute to the passing of his Grandfather in the artwork as well.
This earnest tribute and dedication to his family, mixed in with musical inspiration from Ben Harper and Harry Manx, make the record honest, raw and emotional – and never contrived. You can feel this warmth of love and family in his track New Years
Tierney’s tour this time around is the reverse trip he made five years ago when he made the trip to Brisbane to begin his music career and study. ‘Take On The World’ did not begin with the intention of the end product taking this form. He and mate Blair Campbell originally stepped into the studio at SAE to simply record and learn some new production skills while they were at it, over a period of 3 months. The end product impressed Tierney so much he found it effortless to tie the five tracks together into a very cohesive EP.
And what an impressive EP this is. I predict Pat Tierney is going to make some BIG waves this year with this release, as it is truly an incredibly intimate piece of work.
My pick from the EP ‘Take On The World’ is the majestic Waste My Time ….about the end of a relationship and feeling like you’re wasting each other’s time by even discussing the possibility of staying together.
If your a fan of a combination of Folk, Blues & Roots music then you don’t want to miss this! Pat is about to start an intimate acoustic solo tour that starts in Brisbane, takes in the Sunshine Coast, Byron Bay and back to his home town of Coffs Harbour in the Central Coast of New South Wales.
